In the not so distant past, 'downtown' Hampstead was a pine forest, a three-way stop sign and a little cottage on the corner selling area-grown pitcher plants and Venus flytraps on the front lawn. Topsail Island and the Atlantic Ocean are just a 15-minute drive away, and nearby Wilmington offers an abundance of shopping, dining and recreational and social activities. Plus, with the newly built business HWY-17 bypass, Hampstead residents can be in Wilmington’s downtown historic district in half an hour.
