From humble beginnings in 1997, in 2013 the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital relocated to stunning new facilities in Surf City.  Because the primary purpose of the facility is the care and rehabilitation of sick and injured sea turtles, and because it  operates with an all-volunteer staff, the center is open on a limited basis to the public. Visitors can view magnificent loggerhead sea turtles, green sea turtles and perhaps even a rare Kemp's Ridley turtle while learning about the history and the problems each turtle faces. Visitors will also learn about the feeding, treatment and predicted release dates of the turtles. The center opens for visitors April 1 from 1-4 pm. Due the Turtle Hospital's popularity, it is best to arrive early. No calls for reservations are accepted. The center is not open to the public at other times of the year, and it may close without notice in the summer for emergencies. General admission is $5 for those 13 and up, seniors and military are $4; and children 12 and under are $3.
