Sometimes it's difficult to know exactly where Hampstead begins and ends, but most folks agree that the center of town is where U.S. HWY 17 and 210 meet, at the Food Lion. Once a crossroads marked only by a small cottage with a yard full of Venus Flytrap plants for sale, this intersection is now the commercial hub of Hampstead. The area's explosive growth in the 1990's brought several new shopping venues to Hampstead. Many new commercial centers have sprouted up along U.S. 17 bringing new restaurants and shops to the area.
